It's Pride Month...Again! (Disability Pride Month 1)

It is officially Disability Pride Month and I have a lot of feelings and thoughts.
On one hand, I love this month, especially after LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, because I feel ignored as a disabled person during June and July is a month to celebrate my disability and being Disabled. I obviously don’t need a certain month to do that, but as someone still trying to accept and love their disability and being Disabled, the celebration of Disabled people this month helps me unashamedly embrace my Disabled identity.
On the other hand, I also have some pessimistic thoughts and feelings.
This month isn’t advertised. Our flag isn’t plastered on every business’s social medias. Hell, every nondisabled person I’ve talked to as NO idea there even is a Disability Pride Month.
This month is celebrating Disabled people, but how are we supposed to feel celebrated and supported when we’re the only ones that know about it?
We are harmed DAILY by ableism and the only attention I see brought to that is the free labor of Disabled people. It isn’t okay.
Throughout this month, if my mental health permits it, I will be sharing personal experiences of mine of ableism. And probably be talking about different shows that have extreme ableism and/or exclusion. Come join me!
