(I have recently learned Vitiligo is a disability so I will refer to it as such from now on.)
On July 13, 2022 Harry Styles released the music video for his song "Late Night Talking".
In the music video are photos of him "sleeping" in bed with a person or two. In two of these photos is a person with Vitiligo.
I think this disability representation is great. Simple and without making it this huge announcement or thing you should be applauded for. But as a wheelchair user, I feel very left out.
As a wheelchair user, for me, it is extremely rare to see myself represented in music.
One of the things I love about you, Harry, is your obvious care for others. You don’t seem afraid to love others, so what’s up with the exclusion of wheelchair users in your music videos? Wheelchair users exist and there’s nothing wrong with that. We deserve to be shown in fictional worlds too.
Speaking in context of the video, wheelchair users are already rarely shown in intimate and/or sexy situations. Hell, Candace Owens called wheelchair users in an underwear ad “ridiculous”. It encourages the - 100% incorrect - narrative that we don’t belong. That wheelchair users can’t be sexual beings. That no one can find us sexually attractive.
Wheelchair users simply exist and it’s about time that is shown in music.

I totally get that it needs representation, but why specifically target Harry for doing this when literally every creator does it!?
