Exclusion Isn't Pleasing (Pleasing Part 3)

Pleasing has officially turned 2 years old…and they’re still excluding wheelchair users.

Yesterday they released new products (fragrances and an assortment of apparel). Only a few of them include any human beings in the photos on the websites - and none of those people being wheelchair users, or having any mobility aides.

The products that include people in their photos on the website are: the House Pajamas (in red and in green), the Pleasing Crewneck (in blue, in red, in lavender, and in brown), the Pleasing Sweatpant (in brown, in blue, in cream, in black, and in lavender), the Heavyweight Drawstring Hoodie (in cream, in black, in blue, and in lavender), and the Merino Wool Pleasing Beanie (in black, in brown, in blue, in cream, and in lavender).

The products that don’t include people in their photos on the website are: the fragrances (Bright, Hot ; Rivulets ; and Closeness), the House Robe (in red and in green), the Pleasing Crewneck (in forest green), and the Slouchy Sock (in washed ink and in cream).

Pleasing did post a photo of a person modeling the robe (in red) on their Instagram story though.

According to their website they’re also dropping a new sweater in December. There are already photos of this product on the website - 2 of which include people. Neither of these people visibly being wheelchair users or having any sort of mobility aid(es).

The thing is, there is no excuse to not include us [wheelchair users]. We can model clothes (or fragrances) while sitting in our wheelchairs or, if the photo calls for it, sitting on something else with our chairs to the side in the picture. A wild concept, I know! (That last sentence is absolute sarcasm.)

I think Pleasing not including humans in photos with the fragrances on the website is funny (aka interesting) and particularly frustrating. Pleasing spent A WHILE advertising the fragrances and when they finally premiere, there’s nothing particularly special about them. They’re just fragrances - not the product that FINALLY includes wheelchair users in Pleasing.

Unfortunately, I’m not surprised by this lack of representation and inclusion. Just incredibly disappointed.
